Bed Bugs vs Wicker

Ever since I found my first bed bug I knew that one day I would run into a wicker bed set.  Bed Bugs harbour in small dark crevices in head boards and side tables.  In this case my first thought was that the wicker bed frame would provide the perfect hiding spots for bed bugs, and soon I'd prove my suspicions right.  I found spotting (blood) all over the top edge of the wicker frame.

f you look closely about 3/4 of the way down the picture you will find a reddish brown spot on the metal frame where the wicker was cut away, this is a bed bug.  I found 10 bed bugs hiding in the wicker and several egg locations.  I gave the customer the choice to either discard the frame or strip all of the wicker off of it.

A careful inspection was done on the rest of the unit, the treatment was performed, and "climb-Ups" were installed on the legs of the frame to prevent and detect any travellers.

Raccoon Mommy with 2 Babies in the Attic

This is Mom.  She has 2 babies living in the rafters above this carport.  CridX was called in because the customer is planning to replace the soffits which will block entry.  A first attempt failed as we were able to trap the 2 babies but not the mother so the babies were released.  We're going back tonight with a large trap, a cover & a trap divider which allows the babies to go in first and then when Mom comes to get them she will be in the trap with them.  When we have them all together then we can get them out of the carport and find a great new spot for them all to live.

Counter Attack - Wasps

How would you like to walk out of your front door to look up and see this above your head?  (Click on the photo to zoom in.)

CridX was called out to take care of this basket ball sized wasp nest.  Any noise made by the home owner, residents, or neighbours was setting off the wasps in this nest and they would start attacking.  Several people had been stung and even a neighbourhood dog felt the sting of these unwanted house crashers.  The treatment has been done and we plan to go back in a week to remove the nest.  We will use fishing line to remove the nest and we hope to keep it as a sample.  We are going to try to cut the nest in half so we can use it in displays to show people what the inside of a wasp nest looks like.

If you have any concerns about wasps give us a call.

Skunk removal/release from a Prison - He's breakin outta this joint!

This skunk was removed from the Kent prison in BC.  He was taken to a provincial park area in Chilliwack.  Hopefully he doesn't make too much of a stink.  The portable he was under was checked out to ensure that there were no young there.  We think he will be quite happy in his new environment and so are the people at the prison.

Bears Close to Cedar In Mission

It seems that everywhere you go right now there are bears around.  This picture was taken about a week ago.  There were 3 cubs with their Momma Bear just in from Cedar Street.   I pulled over and took a quick picture but by the time I got the camera the three cubs were out of sight.  It's too bad that I didn't get a shot of them because they were super cute little fur balls.  I hope everyone in the area of the Mohawk gas station keeps their garbage in lock up!

Things are heating up!

CridX was called out to a processing plant for what sounds like a crow inside their boiler unit.  The unit was shut down for repair, and the crew working on it reported the noise.  When CridX arrived we found the same thing that the crew reported.  It sounded like a crow was inside the unit.  An access panel was remove and we reached blindly inside to find an adult crow stuck inside the exhaust of the boiler unit.  After washing the crow off with a warm dish soap and water solution, the crow was released outside the plant.

Are You Prepared?

It's mating season, so nesting areas are currently being sought out. Be sure to inspect your home to identify & locate potential areas of concern before this becomes a problem for your family.  Pay close attention to soffits, sun deck or porch enclosures & chimney areas.  These are typical entrance locations for unwanted guests. To keep them out, started sooner rather than later on diligent inspections & repairs.

If you'd like us to come out & do a full inspection & report for you, we will do this for FREE if you mention that you saw it on this blog.  Give us a call at 604-BAN-PEST (604-226-7378) to book your FREE INSPECTION & REPORT today.

Mate 4 Life-Fingers Crossed

The Beaver is getting all of the attention he needs at Critter Care & is resting comfortably between treatments on a warm heating pad with a blanket. Apparently BEAVERS MATE FOR LIFE, so if he pulls through, Critter Care will call Allan to have CridX pick him up & return him to his home so he can be reunited with his partner. Our fingers are crossed for this little guy.

Thank You Critter Care

Allan in front of Critter Care in Langley. What a great group of people. We (and the Beaver) are thankful for all of your help! We know he is in great hands.

Resting on a Heating Pad

This Beaver was much bigger than a Jack Russell dog. His back feet are webbed & much bigger than most people would think. He has big claws too which would have been a concern in Allan's rescue but this poor guy needed help so much & was in rough shape, so he did not put up much of a fight when Allan picked him up. Of course this is something to be very careful of but Allan has years of experience in dealing with wildlife.

In this photo, the beaver is on a large heating pad that is also a weigh scale.  It is great to see how well Critter Care takes care of the animals from the first moment they step into their facility.

Attacked by a Cougar?

Now that the good people at Critter Care have had a chance to look at this Beaver, we now know that he has a bad injury to his back & tail. It appears that this beaver was attached by a Cougar, Coyote or a Dog, but given the size of this animal, the staff are leaning toward the likelihood of it having been a cougar. His back & tail have several punctures & a gash. It is infected & there are maggots in the wound. In this photo, the staff at Critter Care are using tweezers to remove maggots from the wound. Allan mentioned that the Beaver had a strong smell of "wet dog" combined with the odour of infection. He obviously needed a helping hand & he's now getting the attention he needs. He must have gone through a pretty scary experience being attacked & then been very frightened by the cars whizzing by him. We're just glad we were able to help. Thank you for calling CridX Chris!

Admittance to Critter Care

Here's a photo of the BEAVER Allan rescued today. We received a call from a concerned resident in the Silverdale area of Mission. When Allan got out there, this poor guy was limping & stopping to lay down in the middle of the road. He has a bad injury to his back & tail. Cars were just driving right by him & it's surprising that he did not get hit. Allan carefully put him into a blanket in a carrier in his truck & took him to Critter Care in Langley where they are working on him right now.

Beaver Rescue-Mission, BC

CridX just rescued an injured BEAVER! We got a call about the little guy on a road with a messed up leg in Silverdale, Mission. Likely hit by a car. Allan has him safe & sound in the truck now in a blanket inside a large carrier & he's on the way to Critter Care where they can handle beaver rehabilitation (only place). Good thing he got there in time-he saw 3 cars nearly hit him as he tried to get to him. Hope the little guy will be ok.
